How To Maximize Your Career Coaching Appointment

In order to make the most of your career coaching appointment, please keep the following tips in mind prior to your meeting!

Peter Hunt

Remember that it’s okay not to have decided on a path. We see many students who are considering multiple alternative careers, job fields, and internship options, and some students come to us feeling nothing but confusion about what they want to do! And that’s just fine – we’re here to help you sort out these questions.
Peter Hunt, Education, Nonprofit, and Social Service Coach

Have any application materials open and ready to share. If you’re having any documents, like a resume, cover letter, or personal statement, reviewed during your appointment, you can make the most of our time together if you have them open and ready. Keep in mind, you can always bring these documents to drop-ins!
Salome Miclette, Communication, Arts, and Media Coach

Understand your role and your career coach’s role during the appointment. As career coaches, we’re here to ask you questions that will help you think through your career aspirations and to share resources that will help you achieve your goals. Be ready to actively engage in dialogue with your coach and to determine the next steps you will take to follow up on the discussion.
Kayla Pelland, Science, Technology, and Engineering Coach

My goal is to help you make progress towards your career goals! Prior to our meeting, it is helpful if you consider why you scheduled the appointment with me and what you wish to accomplish during that time. You can be prepared with background information you think will be helpful, and I will look forward to facilitating your process of moving forward!

Come with a bias to action! One of our goals is to help you walk away from an appointment with clear next steps. While career exploration can feel overwhelming, we can help you make progress by co-creating achievable goals with you. Make a promise to yourself that you’ll come open-minded and ready to try out new things.
Julianne Smith, Exploration Coach

Please come back! Even if you feel like your very first or second coaching session went well and most of your questions were answered, our doors are always open and we love seeing familiar faces.  Career exploration is a lifelong journey and finding the right job and/or career will not come overnight.  The more times you utilize what the Career Center and its coaches have to offer, the better prepared you will be when making career related decisions.
Jonathan Rosenthal, Healthcare and Nursing Coach

We look forward to meeting with you and helping you work towards your goals!
