20 Career Resolutions for 2020

Welcome to a new year and new decade! As you build out a few resolutions for 2020, consider adding a few career-related opportunities to your list. Below are a few suggestions to get you started.

  1. Make an appointment with a Career Coach to develop your goals for the upcoming year. We love working with students at all stages of their career journey, whether you are just getting started, freaking out about internships, can’t decide on a major, or need help with your job or internship search.
  2. Try something new that will push you outside of your comfort zone and open you up to new interests. 
  3. Practice an attitude of gratitude in your life, including your career journey. 
  4. Embrace your career exploration and find power in asking questions. 
  5. Take a self-assessment to learn about your skills and interests.  
  6. Join a career cluster that matches your interests and get involved with upcoming programs and events. 
  7. Be patient and open-minded in your job/internship search. 
  8. Reframe the should statements in your life and be intentional about how you spend your time. 
  9. Join an organization on campus or elevate your current position to a leadership role. Be mindful of the skills you are gaining in your various activities and connect them to your job/internship search. 
  10. Expand your network and build community by connecting with alumni on Eagle Exchange.
  11. Attend office hours with a faculty member and discuss your career goals with them. 
  12. Find a mentor that you admire. 
  13. Jump out of your comfort zone by attending an upcoming career fair to meet with employers. 
  14. Create a professional online presence and build your brand. 
  15. Set up a job shadow with an alum to explore potential career paths and experience a place of work. 
  16. Take a course beyond your major requirements in a subject that truly interests you.
  17. Take your resume to the next level by enhancing your bullet points. 
  18. Practice your interviewing skills by using Big Interview.
  19. Build your resilience and bounce back from any career-related setbacks. 
  20. Take time to familiarize yourself with the Career Center’s resources and make the most of what is available to you on campus.
