After a long fall semester, many of you are looking forward to going home and enjoying a peaceful holiday season. Now is definitely the time to relax, step-back, and take a break from the hustle and bustle of campus life. Keep in mind, there are still a few things you can do this winter to prepare yourself in your career readiness journey!
Stay connected!
Reach out and try to remain in touch with individuals you made an authentic connection with this semester. Remember, these alumni, professionals, or mentor-figures want to help you and would be more than happy to continue the conversation. Don’t be afraid to reach out through Eagle Exchange, LinkedIn, or email to keep them updated on your career journey and learn more about theirs.
Read inspiring books
During winter break, you will likely have some time off from the mandatory readings that you may have been assigned. Take this opportunity to read your own books and guide you towards self improvement. Here are a few books that we highly recommend checking out:
- Mindful Self-Discipline: Living with Purpose and Achieving Your Goals in a World of Distractions by Giovanni Dienstmann
- Untamed by Glennon Doyle Melton
- Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It by Chris Voss
Download the Handshake app
Handshake is a great recruiting platform that allows students, like yourself, to connect with employers who are looking to hire for internships and full-time positions. This app is an accessible way to keep up-to-date on your Handshake notifications at a whim. It is available to download both on ios and Android and makes the job hunt right at your fingertips!
If you haven’t already made a Handshake account, now is definitely the time to do so. Be sure to complete your profile and include information such as your resume so that you are more likely to find an internship or job opportunity!
Mark your calendar for upcoming events in the spring!
Be on the lookout for our upcoming spring events! All of our events can be found on Handshake! These events will range from information sessions, to career fairs, and networking panels. They are great opportunities to learn more about a specific career path, company, or meet new people.
Relax and unwind
Last but not least, take time to relax, reflect, and unwind. You made it through a great semester and truly deserve a good break. Watch a good movie, spend time with family and friends, and also take time to yourself. We can’t wait to see you back on campus in the spring
